Intuitive parenting

You can read all of the books, you can follow all of the “professionals” on Instagram, everyone will tell you the “right” way to do something, the constant ”have you tried such and such”... but honestly what it all comes down to is this. How does it feel to you and your family? Does it sit right with you? Just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t mean that it’s right for you and your family. Listen to what that little voice inside you is saying, it will guide you, it won’t lead you astray. The parenting journey, although tough, is a lot harder when you are trying to walk down someone else’s path. Yes their path may look easier than yours, but looks can be deceiving. Your path is built just for you and your family, it may not be easy, but it will flow just the way its supposed to and you won’t be constantly battling the resistance of being somewhere you aren’t meant to be.

I have found that over the last 5.5yrs of my parenting journey, I would find myself pottering along doing my own thing not really paying much attention to what anyone else was doing. Suddenly something would catch my eye, hang on I would think... what is that other Mum doing with her kids? She seems like she has it all together and knows what she is doing. Shit, should I be doing that too? Am I missing something? And I would deviate from my path. Start trying to do something that someone else was doing and things just didn’t feel right. So then I would go back to what was working for us and what do you know, everything just flowed again.

It’s hard in today’s society with all of the technology and media that we are constantly bombarded with. The residual noise has a tendency to drown out our own feelings and intuition. But with practice the volume on your intuition can be turned up. I still find myself distracted by the noise of society all the time. I have to come back into myself, refocus and redirect. It’s constant, but life definitely flows better when I am on my own path.

So find your path, follow it, do what feels right for you. Don’t worry if you wander off into the bush from time to time, that’s okay, there are lessons in the bush. Just make sure you find your way back to your path and not someone else’s.
